The William Pike Challenge Award Recount!

On Tuesday, it was meet the teacher night, the whole class cooked dinner for all the parents, all the children and for William Pike. William Pike was here because he was telling us what happened to him, we needed to know because the year seven and eights are participating in the William Pike Challenge Award.

After we all finished having dinner we all headed to the Wharehui where we learnt about what happened to William Pike. It was so interesting learning about William Pike’s leg. Looking at the picture of his leg when he was in hospital was so disgusting but cool at the same time, but I reckon it would really hurt.

Near the end of William Pike’s talk he asked one of the student’s to come up to take off his leg and clean it. William picked Jacob and I must say he was pretty confident about cleaning his leg. After Jacob finished cleaning William’s leg he got one of his books and William Pike signed the book to. I had such a good night, apart from all the rain, it was so awesome learning about William Pike.

  1. Prudence: I notice you have picked up on one fact that no one else in your class mentions - the pain. I also wondered about how much sheer physical pain he endured. You have written an excellent recount Prudence. Can you think of any other examples of bravery that inspire you? I look forward to your next blog post.
