Student Council Program

Last Tuesday, the YMS Student council went to Rawhiti School, to learn about our health and learn what other schools do. It was really interesting to learn what other schools do for their health and well-being. They had a very cool morning planned for all of us. We did Zumba, we went on a bike track and played some games.

It was really interesting when we were presenting to some groups. It was good to know what other people do at their schools. But when it was my turn to present with Hannah, I got a bit scared to speak but I managed to do it.

Here are some photos of our experience:

High Ropes and Low Ropes

On Monday, the year 7 and 8's went to the Groynes for our William Pike Challenge. We were going to do high ropes and low ropes and did some teamwork exercises. It was really fun doing the teamwork exercises because it was something new that I haven't really done before.

The thing I found challenging was the bog challenge, where you have three planks and the whole group has to get across the bog with the planks without touching the ground. It was really fun. After some more exercises we finally went onto the giants ladder, it was really hard because the higher I got the gaps got bigger, so I couldn't get to the top. Then finally we did the vertical playpen, and I got to the top. I felt very accomplished.

I had a really fun time. Here are some photos from the experience:

Literacy Shed

This week, I did free writing but the problem was, that I couldn't think of anything to write about. So I asked Mrs Taylor and she showed a website called Literacy Shed. It's really cool, there are little categories like, The Fun Shed or The Ghostly Shed. You can click on anyone and it takes you to another page with short movies, that might inspire you to write something.

I really like some of the movies under The Ghostly Shed. It made me think of what I could write about and loads of ideas came into my head.

If you want to check out the website click here.

Janice Webb

Lately in Rimu we have been doing art, and we had to find some New Zealand artists and replicate their art by using online tools. I found Janice Webb and I loved her work. So I looked all over the internet and couldn’t find anything about her, so I found her email and asked a few things. I found out that she was actually born in Canada but she moved to New Zealand. Janice Webb loved art at a very young age, and as she grew older she continued to paint.
Here are some of the pieces I liked:

It was really fun recreating her art, I think it turned out pretty well. Here is my version of her art:Screenshot 2017-03-29 at 2.29.09 PM.png

Robotics in Science!

On Tuesday, the year 7 and 8's went to technology. I went into Science with Hannah, Lucy and Ian. Once we all got our books, we got to make robots! It was really fun, it was like building LEGO. Hannah, Lucy and I were in a group together, and we all had turns building it.

Finally once we finished our robot we connected it to the computer and started programming it to do things. We tried making it do lots of things. We made it go forward and when it stopped it made a applause noise. It went around in a circle and so many other things. I really enjoyed building the robots, I want to do it again.

Meeting Jamie Duff!

This week Yaldhurst Model School, got the privilege of meeting a famous NZ Sprint racer... Jamie Duff! Jamie and his dad came to our school with their sprintcar. It was really interesting to learn about what they've been doing and looking at the car.

We also got autographs. It was really cool. And turns while I was there, my cousins husband was there and helped with the car. Once we got back inside the classroom, five of us sneakily went to look at the massive truck the car came in with our teacher Mrs Taylor! We stood in front of it and got some pictures and had a look inside.

There wasn't alot inside, but it was big enough to live in it! Here are some photos of our experience:

How to be a HERO in the Library

Hannah and I were in a group and we created a poster and made it into a video. I hope you like it!
